Company UAB Rotoplius offers contract plastic moulding services using rotational molding technology, to manufacture your products

About rotational molding

Rotational molding is an automatic plastic molding method, for manufacturing hollow plastic bodies with many different properties and shapes, both for residential, commercial, and industrial application.

Rotomoulding principle is quite straightforward. Materials in pallets or powders are put into the moulding forms. Moulding form is rotated in the heating chamber, while the plastic is melting and layering to form hollow plastic body. Finally, mould is cooled, letting plastic to solidify into the final shape, after which, the product is taken out of the mould and necessary technological steps are taken to prepare the mould for the next cycle.

The main of advantage of modern rotomolding technology is ability to produce uniform hollow plastic bodies without without welding. Additionally, plastic walls formed are uniform in thickness. Lack of weld-line and thickness uniformity, ensures better mechanical characteristics of the product.

Another advantage of rotomoulded products is lack of internal moulded in stresses. Differently from injection or blow moulding, plastic part while rotomolded does not incur heightened pressure of shear conditions, therefore finished products are stronger overall.

Finally, precision demands for rotationally moulded product moulds are less. This allows for cheaper moulds, letting even a smaller series manufacturing have a good business case.

Product examples

Rotational moulding technology allows for high variance in sizes and properties of products to be produced.

Some of the categories where rotomoulded products are prevalent are interior and exterior design, furniture, lighting solutions, floating tables, sunbathing chairs, pub interior elements, and many more.

A link to a pinterest collection of many product and design possibilities of rotomoulding is given down below.

Another big category of rotomoulded products are technical mouldings. These are functional products serving special purpose in industry, food, agriculture, transport and construction spheres. Here are some of the examples of such technical products - boats, buoys, pontoons, coldboxes, chemical storage containers, spill trays, pallets, isolated box for food industry, hottubs and many more. A collection of fine technical mouldings could be found below, following a link to a pinterest gallery.

Our serial manufacturing proposal

We are a manufacturer of plastic pontoons where we use rotational molding technology. Current experience in production and contact with necessary stakeholders in this industry such as material suppliers and mould makers gives us an unique opportunity to offer contract moulding services for your products. After the first contact with us we work within the general framework laid out further, however we are flexible as well, being able to adapt to your unique requests and business practices.

  • First step is an evaluation of your product design to determine the suitability of the part to be produced using rotomoulding technology. We are able to work both on napkin sketch to elaborate 3D models. In case you are concerned about the disclosure of the design information, we can work out the NDA agreement, so you could feel secure enough to proceed with the further discussions.

  • Next step is to make sure that your part together with the mould would fin inside our manufacturing equipment. Diagonal of the product with the mould must fit within one of the perimeter shown down below.

  • After basic geometrical evalution, we dig deeper into the specific needs of your product. Critical aspects needs to be identified and discussed - such as, but not limited to, UV exposure characteristics, rigidity, loading, fire resistance class, impermeability, resistance to chemical compounds, colour, weight, insulation characteristics (we have a possibility to fill product with EPS foam, giving very good insulation properties). Also design elements such as stickers, emblems, surface finish and patterns must be discussed at this stage. With the critical aspects of the product clear, we are able to offer the best suited material for your product. The main materials used in rotomoulding are polyethylenes, nailons, XLPE and polyplropylenes.

  • With material chosen, next step is to discuss the manufacturing schedule and quantities as well as our capability.

  • With all the above clarified, we are able to contact the mould maker, to get the price for your mould. We do not own your mould, but rather act as an intermediary to discuss all the relevant aspects of the mould with mould makers so you don't have to. As you are the mould owner, you are not tied to us completely as only one service provider, with ability to move your production moulds elsewhere. We believe that this approach gives you more security and pushes us for excellence to be consistently good with our service.

  • Next step is us giving you the service price. Additionally, at this step, material suppliers are chosen as well as supply terms are agreed upon.

  • With all the details out of the way, signing of a manufacturing service contract can take place.

  • Moulds for production then are ordered by the previously discussed specifications.

  • With the moulds arrival to our factory grounds, product optimisation procedure begins, where mould could be sent back for adjustments.

  • After confirmation from you that test batch quality is within your expectations, serial manufacturing can finally start.
